Problem with Indian Cricket – Lack of Competition

December 16th, 2006 by tapsboy

Over the last period of years, I have literally stopped watching cricket. The match-fixing scandals, the continouos loosing records all reduced my interest to cricket. My interest in bollywood revived at the same time. But that is not true for most others. Infact, the cricket viewership has only increased, with more and more money coming in and being spent by Indians on cricket. The latest selling of TV rights by ICC is a point of matter. Indian money runs cricket and India hardly wins.

Fundamentally, the biggest problem with the Indian cricket team is the lack of competition. Yes, the lack of competition from other sports makes our cricketing system complacent. By cricketing system, I mean, our International and Domestic players, the boards, the coaches, etc. They will try out all possible methods to enhance performance, but simply can’t build up a greed to win.

Players of Australia and South Africa know that if they loose the way Indians do, their country will reject them. They have got rugby, football and loads of other sports, both team sports and individual sports, to switch over to. Lesser viewership, lesser advertisements, less money from them and above all the charm of being champs is lost.

In India, however, even if our team looses so badly as it does, everyone including the fans, players, coach, commentators, retired champions keep a hope from our team. Infact, some go to the extent of telling them as the best team in the world that is out of form. For godsake, come to the reality. Indian cricket team has very little time been on the top of cricket world. Our performances abroad suck. Only individual records find worth mention. Team performances are poor throughout. Team records are even more miserable, as they will hardly be found on winning side.

Update1: Prayers have worked!! India get their first ever test win in South Africa!!
Did the Men in Blue have an option, when their loosing spree was discussed in parliament. For a change, our parliamentarians made things work. :) . Applause!!

Zidane – The Final Header

July 11th, 2006 by tapsboy

Honestly, speaking I am no futbol buff, neither do I wish to become one, unless India is playing the world cup. I promise, I will follow every match and every event for that glorious Indian team.

But one event of the final match makes me write it this time. It is

headbut.gif

and then……..

Ofcourse, you all know it by now, zidane and his career’s worst header(actually a headbut), which he would probably regret for the rest of his life.
